OREGON TRAIL

OREGON NATIVE SON

Candidate Bio: Roots as Deep as the Douglas Firs

"My connection to Oregon isn’t just on a map—it’s in my DNA. My story began in a covered wagon departing from Missouri, where my great-grandmother made the grueling 2,000-mile journey across the Oregon Trail. She didn’t just ride; like most pioneers, she walked alongside that wagon to settle in the Willamette Valley, fueled by the promise of a better life and the beauty of the West.

Growing up as a native son, I was raised on the values she brought with her: grit, independence, and a deep respect for the land.

Today, I see a government that has put up paywalls and red tape around the very wilderness my ancestors settled. I’m running for Governor because I believe Oregonians shouldn’t have to 'rent' their heritage. I'm running to open the gates, honor our veterans, and ensure that every family—whether they’ve been here for five generations or five days—can enjoy the 'Oregon Way' without a permit standing in their way."

"Pioneer"

"My great-grandmother came to Oregon the hard way—via a covered wagon from Missouri. She walked across the plains and over the Blue Mountains to help build this state from the ground up. 🌲

She didn’t endure that journey so her descendants would be nickel-and-dimed just to go fishing or take their kids camping.

She came here for freedom, opportunities, and for the land.

As your Governor, I’m going to honor that pioneer spirit.

No more hunting and fishing fees for Oregon residents. No more parking permits at our state parks. No more camping under the stars fees.

It’s time we return Oregon to Oregonians.

I’m Steve Laible and I’m ready to open the gates. Who’s with me? #OregonNative #OregonTrail #OpenTheGates #OregonGovernor2026

  • The "Toughness" Factor: She walked (as most pioneers did because the wagons were too heavy/bumpy) highlights a legacy of hard work. I'm not afraid of a "long haul."

  • The Contrast: She could never have imagined red tape or paying fees to fish, camp or hunt.

  • Doesn't my policy feel like a return to common sense?

  • The "Legacy" Connection: I'm not just "a guy with an idea" perhaps this is my manifest destiny.  You'll decide.
